WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Hood College softball team (12-26) dropped
both games of a nonconference doubleheader to the Catholic
University Cardinals (16-16) Sunday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and
8-0 in five innings.
Cardinal hurlers Stacie Goddard and Stephanie Clemente
surrendered just three base hits on the afternoon while tossing a
pair of complete game shutouts. Clemente gave up a pair of singles
to senior Sara Wastler in the opener but did not allow a Blazer
base runner past second base.
The Cardinals loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of
the third on a walk and a pair of singles. Then a Blazer miscue in
the field led to two Cardinal runs to come across. Ringley retired
Megan Covert on a grounder to short to end the inning. Ringley
allowed just one Cardinal hit the rest of the way.
Goddard then pitched a one-hit shutout in the nightcap to earn
her eighth win of the season. Jen Lacy doubled in the top of the
fifth for Hood's lone hit of the contest.
Catholic scored four in the first inning, two in the second, one
in the third and one in the fourth en route to the victory.
