TOWSON, Md.--Junior midfielder Cara Jordan scored both goals for
the Hood College women's soccer team (1-0-0) in a 2-0 nonconference
victory over Goucher College (0-1-0) Tuesday in the season opener
for both teams.
Jordan scored the 19th and 20th goals of her Hood career, one in
each half, to lift the Blazers to the shutout win. Her first tally,
an unassisted score, snapped a scoreless tie in the 37th minute.
Then with just 1:41 left in regulation, Jordan blasted home a feed
from sophomore Jennifer Givens to lock up the victory. Kelleen
Matthews denied Jordan the opportunity for a hat trick with a save
on her shot with 28 seconds remaining in the second half.
The Blazer goalkeeping tandem of Rachelle Buhrman and Kirsten
Cacciola each played one half in the net without surrendering a
goal. Buhrman turned away four Gopher shot attempts while Cacciola
stopped the only shot she faced in the 54th minute.
Hood outshot Goucher 28-8 on the evening.
The Blazers return home Thursday to host Capital Athletic
Conference rival York College (Pa.) in their first game on the new
turf field. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
