FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's soccer team (6-2-1)
netted three second-half goals to capture a 3-0 nonconference win
over the visiting Chatham University Cougars (3-4) Saturday
afternoon at a soggy Thomas Athletic Field.
The two teams played virtually the entire game in a steady
downpour. After a scoreless first half, junior Cara Jordan notched
her team-leading seventh goal of the season 1:21 into the second
stanza to get the Blazers on the board. Then late in the period,
junior Abby Dyjack and freshman Jen Civick booted back-to-back
tallies 2:34 apart to extend the Hood lead to 3-0. Sophomore Jamie
Bingaman assisted Dyjack and freshman Kristen Byers fed her
classmate Civick to complete the scoring for Hood.
Junior Rachelle Buhrman and sophomore Kirsten Cacciola combined
for their sixth shutout of the fall. Hood outshot the Cougars 28-4
and limited the visitors to one shot on goal in the 44th minute.
With the win, Hood remains unbeaten in nonconference games
(5-0-1). The Blazers are also now 10-4 all-time against Chatham and
have claimed the last nine straight matchups with the Cougars
dating back to 2000.
The Blazers are idle until Saturday when they host Capital
Athletic Conference foe Marymount University at 11 a.m. Hood will
also recognize seniors Nikki Antalffy, Laura Hines and Brittany
Hurt before the match.
