FREDERICK, Md.--Four Seahawks netted double figures as No. 16
St. Mary's College (14-2, 7-1 CAC) grabbed sole possession of first
place in the Capital Athletic Conference with a 65-54 win over the
Hood College men's basketball team (11-6, 6-2 CAC) Wednesday
evening at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick.
After the Seahawks outscored the Blazers 10-2 over the first
2:57, Hood reeled off nine straight markers to take its first lead
of the game at the 13:03 mark. But St. Mary's countered with a run
of its own, using 11 unanswered points to post a 24-15 lead. Alex
Franz and Camontae Griffin combined to drill three treys in the
spurt. Hood trailed 27-22 at halftime. Although Hood connected on
just five field goals in the first 20 minutes, the Blazers hit
11-of-19 from the foul line to stay close.
The Seahawks would not surrender their lead in the second stanza
and led by as many as 13. Hood trimmed the deficit to seven with
1:32 remaining but St. Mary's went 4-for-4 from the line down the
stretch to keep the Blazers at bay.
Tory Wilson registered his fifth double-double of the season
with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Tyler
Snoots chipped in 14 points and seven boards as Hood outrebounded
the Seahawks, 41-31.
Griffin led all scorers with 17 points while backcourt teammate
Franz tallied 12 points and dished eight assists.
The Blazers host their second of three straight CAC opponents
Saturday when the Stevenson University Mustangs come to the Odom
Fitness Center at Fort Detrick for a 6 p.m. tip.
