YORK, Pa.--Junior Reco Siler scored 12 points and pulled down a
game-high 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, but the
Hood College men's basketball team (12-8, 7-4 CAC) fell 88-80 to
the York College (Pa.) Spartans (15-4, 7-3 CAC) Saturday in a
Capital Athletic Conference tilt.
York's Nick Brady was virtually unstoppable from behind the arc
in the opening half, drilling 6-of-7 long-range attempts, as the
Spartans connected on 22-of-33 from the field to give them a 56-43
halftime advantage. Hood also had a solid shooting day in the first
20 minutes, as all nine Blazers to check in contributed to the
scoring in hitting 16-of-26 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the
foul line.
The Blazers nearly erased a 17-point deficit in the second half
when a Justin Stone three-pointer ignited a 15-4 run over a span of
5:08 to make it a four-point game (78-74) with 4:18 left. But the
Spartans went 6-for-6 from the stripe in the final 43 seconds to
seal the victory and remain perfect at the Charles Wolf Gymnasium
(11-0).
Five Blazers reached double figures in the scoring column. J'Air
Brady and Stone finished with 16 points apiece while Byron Morgan
recorded a career-best 11 in 20 minutes off the bench. Tyler Snoots
tallied 10 points and seven caroms while Brenden Straughn chipped
in six points and three assists.
York's Brady led all scorers with 30 points while Matt Moley
came off the bench to net a career-high 17 points.
Hood is now in third place in the CAC standings, one-half game
ahead of Wesley College, Marymount University and Salisbury
University, all with 6-4 league marks. The Blazers and Wesley
Wolverines tangle Wednesday in Dover, Del., at 8 p.m. Hood needed
overtime to defeat the Wolverines, 61-59, in the first meeting back
on Jan. 6 at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick.
