Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--Senior Cara Jordan of the Hood College
women's soccer team (4-8, 0-5 CAC) became the first Blazer to score
on the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (3-4-1, 3-1 CAC) in five
years in a 4-1 Capital Athletic Conference loss Saturday
afternoon.
Jordan registered her team-leading ninth goal of the season in
the 53rd minute, marking the first tally for Hood against SMCM
since 2006. The Blazers had been outscored 22-0 by the Seahawks in
the previous four tilts.
After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks' Tori Eskay converted
a cross from Bridget McGovern just 3:07 into the second stanza. But
a little more than four minutes later, Hood sophomore Stevey Markovich fed a streaking Jordan in the box and she chipped the
ball over a diving Kelsey Wirtz for the equalizer.
But Eskay wasn't finished and notched three more scores in a
span of four minutes for the final margin.
Hood was outshot 24-6 in the contest and was awarded just one
corner kick to the Seahawks' nine. Keeper Rachelle Buhrman (3-7)
tallied five saves in the net for the Blazers.
Hood returns home Wednesday to host Catholic University in a
nonconference game at 4:30 p.m.
