Markovich Propels Hood to Historic Victory

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Stevey Markovich blasted her fourth goal of the season past keeper Tina Brehm in the 70th minute to give the Hood College women's soccer team (6-12, 1-7 CAC) its first-ever win over the University of Mary Washington (8-5-3, 3-3-2 CAC) Tuesday in its regular season finale at Thomas Athletic Field.

Despite being outshot, 24-6, on the afternoon, the Blazers put forth a terrific defensive effort in their final Capital Athletic Conference contest of the fall and made Markovich's tally stand to earn the program's first win over the Eagles in five tries. Senior Rachelle Buhrman rejected 10 attempts in her final start in the blue and grey for her fifth win of the season.

The Blazers ended the 2010 season the same way they started, with back-to-back wins. Hood will lose five seniors to graduation, including Buhrman, defender Abby Dyjack and midfielders Alexa Hubicki, Cara Jordan and Katherine Rendon.
