Box Score WINCHESTER, Va.--The Shenandoah University Hornets (12-9) bested
the Hood College volleyball team by a count of 3-0 (25-20, 25-11,
25-20) Friday evening in nonconference action.
The Blazers and Hornets were engaged in a see-saw battle in the
first set. Hood took its first lead of the match at 10-9 on a
Kristan Hawkins kill. But the Hornets scored the next three points
and never relinquished their lead, taking the first set 25-20.
The two squads traded points once again to start the second set,
but with the score knotted at 6-6, Shenandoah reeled off 14 of the
set's next 15 points to go up 20-7 and went on to capture the
frame, 20-11.
Hood led 7-4 early on in set number three as Amy Hagerdon served
four straight points for the Blazers. Shenandoah's Emily Jones
strung together six straight serves of her own to give the Hornets
a 14-8 lead. Hood closed to within 18-16 on a kill by Brittany
Lethbridge and later 22-20 after a Hornet serving error, but
Shenandoah scored the final three points of the set to complete the
sweep.
Lethbridge led all Blazer attackers with seven kills while
Hawkins finished with six and Ashley Beall chipped in five.
Hagerdon racked up 17 assists and Chelsea Weaver tallied 16
digs.
Shenandoah's Rachel Maki hit .579 on the night, smacking 11
kills on 19 attempts without an error.
Hood returns to Capital Athletic Conference play Tuesday at
Stevenson University at 7 p.m.
