Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Miriah Stone knocked home her third goal of the season for the Hood College field hockey team (2-10) in a 2-1 nonconference defeat to visiting Wells College (2-8) Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Express scored a goal in each half and held off a late Blazer rally to escape with the victory. Elisabeth Rollo poked in a rebound in the 22nd minute for her second goal of the season. Then just 3:15 into the second half, Kristina Owens converted a cross from Adrienne Tomao to give the Express a 2-0 edge. Stone cut the deficit in half in the 57th minute when she was there to finish a scramble in front of the cage.

The Blazers outshot Wells 10-1 in the second half but were unable to net the equalizer. Hood got off five attempts in the final 4:21; two were saved by netminder Madeline Boss, one was blocked by a Wells defender and two sailed wide of the cage.

The Blazers wrap up their home slate Wednesday against the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls, at 4 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
