WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Hood College softball team (9-11, 4-4 CAC)
evened its Capital Athletic Conference record at 4-4 and moved into
fourth place in the league standings after a lop-sided doubleheader
sweep over the Gallaudet University Bison (1-13, 0-4 CAC) Saturday
afternoon.
The Blazers scored early and often against the Bison in the
opener, plating 21 runs on 18 base hits in a 21-0 five-inning
victory. Hood scored four in the first, three in the second, three
in the third, five in the fourth and six in the fifth to put an end
to their four-game losing skid.
Jordan Wolford tossed a one-hit shutout and fanned eight batters
to even her record at 5-5.
Every better in the Blazer lineup collected at least one base
hit.
Erin McNally went 3-for-4 with a homerun, two doubles, five RBI,
a walk and three runs scored.
Brittni Jones laced her second triple of the season and drove in
three runs on the day while Wolford, Kelly Gafner, Bridgette
Ringley and Kandie Glenn knocked in two runs apiece.
Wolford jacked her second round-tripper of the season, a two-run
shot in the top of the second, while McNally followed suit with a
two-run bomb in the fourth, her first as a Blazer.
In the nightcap, McNally threw a no-hitter for her first
pitching victory in the blue and grey. McNally faced only two
hitters more than the minimum following a pair of Blazer defensive
errors. But no Bison base runner advanced past second base in the
ballgame.
The Blazers recorded another five-inning victory but this time
were credited with only three base hits in the game.
Hood scored three runs in the second on bases-loaded walks by
Emalie Stroup and Ringley and wild pitch by GU starter Alicia
Johnson.
Then in the third, Hood tacked on three more runs. Gafner
scampered home on a wild pitch, Taylor Grimmell crossed the plate
after a Bison a throwing error and Jacquie LeMar snuck home in time
on a double steal before Ringley was thrown out at second to retire
the side.
Gafner and Grimmell drove in two of Hood's four runs in the
fourth and two more GU miscues led to the other two Blazer runs in
the frame.
The Blazers continue CAC action Monday at the University of Mary
Washington in a twinbill that was rescheduled from March 13. The
Eagles (6-18-1, 4-2 CAC) are in second place in the league
standings. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
