Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Pa.--The Hood College volleyball team (2-3) split a
pair of five-set decisions at the Penn State-Harrisburg tri-match
Saturday afternoon.
The Blazers started the day by putting an end to their
three-match losing skid with a hard-fought 25-12, 21-25, 20-25,
25-15, 16-14 triumph over the host Nittany Lions. First-year Amy Hagerdon led all hitters with 15 kills to go along with 21 digs for
her first collegiate double-double. Sophomore Ashley Beall was
tasked with the bulk of the setting duties and recorded a
career-high 34 assists. She also racked up five aces and 17 digs,
both seasonal bests. Senior Chelsea Weaver finished with a
match-high 33 digs, three away from tying her personal single-match
high. Hood's two middles, first-year Laura Socks and sophomore
Brittany Lethbridge, also had season-highs in kills with nine and
eight, respectively.
With no rest for the weary, the Blazers had to take the court in
back-to-back matches, this time against the Immaculata Mighty Macs.
Hood rallied from a 2-1 deficit to knot the match at 2-2 with a
25-22 win in the fourth set, but the Mighty Macs were too much for
Hood in the decisive fifth set, registering a 15-10 victory.
Hagerdon once again smacked 15 kills and posted 15 more digs for
her second double-double while Beall assisted on 26 of Hood's 34
kills and notched 10 digs. Senior Kristina Straub contributed a
season-high eight kills while classmate Weaver dug out 27 balls and
served three aces.
The Blazers host three matches next week, beginning with a
nonconference matchup against the Trinity University (D.C.) Tigers
Monday at 7 p.m. at Gambrill Gymnasium.
