FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (3-4, 0-1 CAC) fell 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-14) to the visiting York College (Pa.) Spartans (8-1, 1-0) in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both schools Wednesday evening in Gambrill Gym.

York raced out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and never looked back, taking the stanza 25-8. The lead seesawed a bit at the onset of set number two before the Spartans took the lead for good at 10-9 on a pair of blocks by Brittnee Siegman and Alysse Beshore. York closed out the set on an ace by Beshore to take a 2-0 edge in the match. The Spartans led wire-to-wire in the third set and used a pair of Jessica Moyer kills to clinch the frame, 25-14.

Hood's Amy Hagerdon tallied five kills and 12 digs while Kristina Straub and Brittany Lethbridge chipped in three apiece. Ashley Beall set up 13 of Hood's 17 kills and Beth Arsenault served up two aces.

Beshore led all hitters with 11 kills as the Spartans combined to hit .318 on the night.

The Blazers wrap up the week Friday hosting Christendom College at 7 p.m. in Gambrill Gym.
