Box Score TOWSON, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (0-5) suffered a
6-0 setback to regional rival Goucher College (2-3) Friday
afternoon in nonconference action.
Despite being outshot 10-1 in the first period, the Blazers
limited the Gophers to a single goal in the opening half, a score
by Sara Spadanuta in the 31st minute. But Goucher notched three
goals in a span of 4:31 to assume a 4-0 advantage midway through
the second half. Ali Metzger found the back of the cage twice while
Mary Cadwallender converted a penalty stroke for the hosts. Goucher
tacked on two more unassisted tallies in the 59th minute and the
65th minute for the final margin.
Sophomore Megan Cahill fired four shots on target while junior
Colleen McCarrick also attempted one, but all five were stopped by
Gopher keeper Micki Manheimer.
Hood netminder Anne Marie Hantman turned away two shots while
freshman Ashley Stennett finished with four saves in her 18:31 of
work in the cage.
The Blazers next travel to York College (Pa.) Wednesday for a
4:30 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference contest.
