Goucher Uses Second-Half Surge to Top Blazer Field Hockey, 6-0

Box Score

TOWSON, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (0-5) suffered a 6-0 setback to regional rival Goucher College (2-3) Friday afternoon in nonconference action.

Despite being outshot 10-1 in the first period, the Blazers limited the Gophers to a single goal in the opening half, a score by Sara Spadanuta in the 31st minute. But Goucher notched three goals in a span of 4:31 to assume a 4-0 advantage midway through the second half. Ali Metzger found the back of the cage twice while Mary Cadwallender converted a penalty stroke for the hosts. Goucher tacked on two more unassisted tallies in the 59th minute and the 65th minute for the final margin.

Sophomore Megan Cahill fired four shots on target while junior Colleen McCarrick also attempted one, but all five were stopped by Gopher keeper Micki Manheimer.

Hood netminder Anne Marie Hantman turned away two shots while freshman Ashley Stennett finished with four saves in her 18:31 of work in the cage.

The Blazers next travel to York College (Pa.) Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference contest.
