Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (7-10, 1-4 CAC) came up on the short end of a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision to the Marymount University Saints (8-14, 1-5 CAC), 19-25, 14-25, 17-25, Wednesday evening at Gambrill Gymnasium.
Hood got off to a fast start in the first set, scoring the first three points on a pair of kills by Hayley Rogers and an ace from Amy Hagerdon. The Saints would outscore the Blazers 8-1 from there and Hood called timeout to halt the Saints' momentum. Marymount received strong serving from Johanna Hummel who registered four straight aces which helped the Saints assume a 17-5 lead. Hood battled back late in the set and fought off three set points before Erin Allison clinched the set with one of her seven kills on the night.
The Blazers and Saints traded points for the first few exchanges in the second set before the Saints went on another scoring spurt, scoring eight unanswered points to go up 20-10. The Saints would take advantage of three Blazer miscues to take the second set, 25-14.
Marymount would not trail in the third set, collecting 15 kills on 28 attempts to earn its first CAC win of the season.
Rogers finished with a team-high eight kills and two blocks for Hood while Hagerdon contributed 17 assists and 12 digs. Alyssa Eshleman put down six kills and had four digs while Brittany Lethbridge chipped in with four kills and six digs.
The Blazers return to Gambrill Gym Saturday to host a tri-match with Bryan Athyn College and Washington College beginning at 11 a.m.
