Wells Nips Hood Field Hockey in Overtime, 2-1

Box Score

AURORA, N.Y.--The Wells College field hockey team (4-10) scored the game-winning goal 30 seconds into the first overtime period to upend the Hood College Blazers (3-9), 2-1, Saturday afternoon in nonconference action.

Wells' Avary McKinney got the Express on the board in the 27th minute when she finished a pass from Elisabeth Rollo. The Blazers went into intermission trailing by one but didn't waste any time tying things up in the second half when Michelle Buhrman converted a penalty stroke opportunity in the 48th minute. The goal was Buhrman's second of the season. Hood had two more chances to notch the go-ahead goal but Wells keeper Amanda Catalano saved shots by Chelsea Young and Morgan Cole to send the game into overtime.

The Express controlled play at the start of the extra session and Shelby Moskowicz fired a shot at the cage which was stopped by Ying Van Schaik but Rollo was there to punch home the rebound for the golden goal.

Hood outshot Wells, 14-6, and attempted 12 penalty corners to three by the Express. Van Schaik finished with a pair of saves while Catalano had 10 for the hosts.

Hood returns to action Tuesday at Stevenson University for a Capital Athletic Conference game at 7 p.m.
