Hood Downed by Mary Washington 2-0

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College men's soccer team (3-8-1, 0-5-1 CAC) was defeated at Thomas Athletic Field by Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington (6-5-3, 4-1-2 CAC) 2-0 Wednesday afternoon. It was the Blazers' seventh straight loss and all but ended the team's playoff aspirations.

Mary Washington's Bram Sims scored his first goal of the year off a volley from right outside the 18-yard box. Hood goalkeeper Will Lane made a diving attempt but could not stop the quality shot into the left corner. Hood had a couple of chances in the first half, including a header by senior Matt Voohris that went just high.

As the rain picked up in the second half tempers flared and Hood junior midfielder Jaime Ramirez was given a red card in the 61st minute and Mary Washington capitalized. The Eagles scored their second goal of the game in the 69th minute with a breakaway shot by Corey Sims. The Blazers were outshot 19-2 in the second half and 26-6 for the game.

Lane continued his strong junior campaign in net. Lane had six saves that included many quick reflex plays helping Hood keep the Eagles from capitalizing on their man advantage. Mary Washington's goalkeeper Tyler Back had two saves for the game.

Hood hits the road to play Salisbury, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) No. 17 ranked team in Division III Saturday at 2 p.m.
