Box Score FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College women's soccer team (2-10, 1-5 CAC) defeated Marymount University (4-6, 0-4 CAC) 1-0 for a triumphant victory Friday afternoon. It was the team's first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season and the win snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Blazers.
Hood freshman Samantha Norris scored her first career goal off a free kick from close to 30 yards away. A hand ball by Marymount gave Norris the opportunity and she made them pay. Norris stepped up to take the free kick and struck the ball beautifully as it glided into the back of the net in the 14th minute. The goal would prove to be the decisive point in the game as the Blazers kept the Saints off the scoreboard.
Marymount had plenty of chances to score in the 90 minutes but was turned away every time in a career game for Hood goalkeeper Kirsten Cacciola. Cacciola set a career-high with 17 saves off of 26 Marymount shots. It was Cacciola's first complete shutout of the season and the 11th of her career. Marymount goalkeeper Gaby Prellezo registered two saves on the afternoon. Hood was also outshot 26-5 in the contest.
The Blazers return to the pitch in a non-conference home match against McDaniel College (1-8) Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
