WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Hood College softball team (6-26) suffered a pair of setbacks Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0 and 3-1 to the Catholic University Cardinals (16-9) in nonconference action.

Erin McMakin no-hit the Blazers in the opener for her seventh win of the season. Brianna Dyckman represented Hood's lone baserunner of the game when she drew a walk in the top of the sixth.

Catholic put up a four-spot in the bottom of the first and tacked on a single run in the fourth inning. Bridgette Ringley worked five innings allowing five runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts and three walks. Jennifer Rutherford worked a scoreless sixth despite surrendering two base hits.

In the nightcap, Hood got on the board in the top of the first when Amy Hagerdon doubled in Emalie Stroup, who led off the game with a walk. Catholic tied it in the bottom half on an RBI single by Megan Rizzi.

The Cardinals scored again in the second on an infield single off the bat of Kerri Apicella. After the Blazers stranded two runners in the top of the sixth, the Cardinals added an insurance run on a single by McMakin. Apicella retired the Blazers in order in the seventh to complete the sweep.

Rutherford went the distance in the circle for the Blazers, allowing just five hits one earned run while striking out three and walking one.

The Blazers will await the outcome of other Capital Athletic Conference games, which will be played Sunday and Monday, in order to learn their opponent in the CAC playoffs, which begin Tuesday.
