Box Score 2 SALISBURY, Md.--The Hood College softball team (6-24, 4-8 CAC) came up short in both games of a Capital Athletic Conference twinbill at first-place Salisbury University (27-4, 12-0 CAC) by scores of 3-0 in the opener and 8-0 in six innings in the nightcap Saturday afternoon.
Sea Gull starters Kelly Leary and Erika Brittingham both tossed one-hit shutouts to remain undefeated in CAC play for the eighth straight season and ninth overall.
Casey Dunn reache don an infield single top start the fourth inning in the opener and Kandie Glenn singled to right-center to lead off the fourth in game two.
In game one, the Blazers limited the potent Sea Gull offense to a single run and only one base hit over the first four innings. The Sea Gulls chalked up two more runs in the fifth on a single by Sarah Alpaugh and a double by Michelle Gravdahl. But the Blazers were unable to get the bats going against Brittingham, who picked up 17 strikeouts and earned her 17th win of the season.
Bridgette Ringley surrendered only two earned runs on three base hits and struck out three Sea Gulls in the losing cause.
In the nightcap, Salisbury rapped out 17 base hits, including three homeruns, to earn the six-inning victory.
Hood remains in fifth place in the CAC standings and must await the outcome of the remaining contests to be played by Stevenson University and Frostburg State University Sunday and Monday in order to determine their seed in the CAC playoffs.
