FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (1-1) dropped a 2-0 decision to nonconference rival Shenandoah University (3-3) Monday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

SU's Maria Payne registered both Hornet goals, one in each half, to give the guests their third win of the season. Hood keeper Ashley Stennett rejected 14 Hornet attempts while Michelle Buhrman picked up a pair of defensive saves for the Blazers. Shenandoah outshot Hood, 27-4, and held an 11-2 edge on penalty corners.

The Blazers open Capital Athletic Conference play Friday hosting St. Mary's College (Md.) at 4:30 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
