St. Mary's Relentless Defense Too Much for Blazers in 2-0 CAC Loss

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's soccer team (1-4, 0-1 CAC) dropped its fourth straight decision on the season to the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (4-0, 1-0 CAC) by a 2-0 margin in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

Senior Kirsten Cacciola had a busy afternoon in the net as the Seahawks racked up 28 shots on the day and 15 on target. Cacciola notched a new career-high with 13 stops, four in the first half and nine in the second half.

St. Mary's forward Jo Rambo snuck one past Cacciola in the 28th minute to get the Seahawks on the board. Then in the 60th minute, Lexy McCarty scored her first goal of the season off a scramble in front of the net to give the Seahawks a 2-0 cushion.

Sam Norris and Stevey Markovich both attempted shots on target, but they were denied by Seahawk keeper Kelsey Wirtz, who has yet to surrender a goal in 2011.

The Blazers wrap up their four-match homestand Tuesday against Shepherd University at 5 p.m.
