Blazers Drop CAC Battle to St. Mary's

FREDERICK, Md.-- The Hood College men's soccer team (3-3-1, 0-1-1 CAC) dropped its Capital Athletic Conference home opener to the visiting Seahawks of St. Mary's College (Md.) 1-0 (5-3, 1-1 CAC).

Behind a raucous crowd of over 400 people both teams came out very strong and set a very strong tone in the beginning of the game. Chris Mendez had an early look that looked destined to find the back of the net but the shot was batted away by St. Mary's goalkeeper Austin Brown, who had three saves on the afternoon.

After a scoreless first half St. Mary's had numerous chances for the better part of the second half and came through with a goal in the 67th minute by Mark Jaskolski. The goal was Jaskolski's third of the season and was set up by a solid cross from the left flank by Stephen Hauschild. Hood had a couple of chances late that they were not able to convert.

Will Lane had another phenomenal performance in net for the Blazers tallying 12 saves in the matchup. Lane saved the Blazers on numerous occasions making acrobatic saves from close and far range shots by St. Mary's.

St. Mary's outshot Hood 27-13 and also had more corners with an 8-4 edge.

The Blazers return to action September 28 with an away contest at Shenandoah University starting at 7:30 p.m.
