Buhrman, Stone Score in 3-2 Defeat at Notre Dame (Md.)

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (2-4) came up one goal short in a 3-2 nonconference setback at Notre Dame University of Maryland (2-3) Monday afternoon.

Notre Dame's Ashley Fallon had a hand in the Gators' two scores in the first 13 minutes. Fallon scored the first off an assist from Sarah Morris, then six minutes later set up Katie Johnston on one of the Gators' nine penalty corners on the afternoon. Despite attempting just three shots in the first half to Hood's nine, Notre Dame took its 2-0 advantage into the intermission.

The Blazers rallied in the second half and made both of their second-half shots count, netting a pair of scores to draw even. Michelle Buhrman fired a shot past Gator netminder Emily Langton to cut the deficit in half. Miriah Stone and Nicole Killmer were credited with assists on the score. Then Stone and Megan Cahill hooked up for the game-tying score in the 63rd minute.

With only 2:08 left in regulation, Notre Dame's Molly Murray finished a feed from Johnston which proved to be the game-winner for the hosts.

Both teams fired 11 shots on the day while Hood keeper Ashley Stennett made three saves in the cage.

Hood returns to action Wednesday at the University of Mary Washington. The Blazers and Eagles square off in a Capital Athletic Conference game at 4 p.m.
