Box Score 2 WINCHESTER, Va.--The Hood College volleyball team (0-2) suffered a pair of setbacks at the Shenandoah University tri-match Saturday in its first matches of 2011.
The host Hornets swept the Blazers in three sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-19. Ashley Whaley and Hayley Rogers tallied a team-best four kills apiece for Hood while Morgan Huffer assisted on 14 Blazer kills. Whaley and Alyssa Eshleman recorded six digs apiece while Brittany Lethbridge and Amy Hagerdon each served a pair of aces.
In the second match against the Randolph College Wildcats, Hood dropped the first set, 25-19 before rallying to knot the match at 1-1 with a 26-24 triumph in set two. But the Wildcats closed out the match with a 25-15 win in the third set and a 25-17 victory in set number four for their first win of the season.
Rogers smacked a season-high 13 kills on 22 attempts with just two errors for a .500 hitting percentage. Huffer set up 25 Blazer kills while Hagerdon led the defensive effort with a season-high 19 digs. Eshleman finished with seven kills and 11 digs in the match.
Hood opens its home slate Tuesday hosting Penn State-Mont Alto at 7 p.m. in Gambrill Gym.
