Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (6-13) took the Catholic University Cardinals to a fourth set but the Cardinals were relentless on attack and took the match 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-9, 25-5) Thursday evening at BB&T Arena.
Hood was led offensively by Brittany Lethbridge who smacked 10 kills in addition to contributing seven digs and two blocks. Rebecca Rieser tallied five kills while Kathryn Jones, Allie Donoghue and Ashley Park-Brouse had four apiece and Amy Hagerdon finished with three. Hagerdon also chipped in a team-best 16 digs while Jones added a season-high 13 digs and 16 assists for her second double-double of the season.
The Cardinals posted a collective .371 hitting percentage and posted eight team blocks on the night. Claudia Jean notched match-highs of 16 kills and 23 digs while Mariana Cruz set 32 Cardinal kills.
After falling behind 25-14 after set one, the Blazers went toe-to-toe with the Cardinals in the second set which featured 11 ties. Hood rallied to take its first lead of the frame, 14-13, on a Rieser kill. After 16 sideouts, Hood put the set away on a Park-Brouse kill and an ace by Rieser to knot the match at 1-1.
The Cardinals turned it on in the next two sets, collecting 22 kills and committing only one hitting error while surrendering just 14 points combined to the Blazers.
Next up for Hood is a Commonwealth Conference tri-match at Stevenson University Saturday. The Blazers will take on the first-place Mustangs at 10 a.m. and the sixth-place Lycoming College Warriors at noon.
