Field Hockey Upended by Stevenson, 3-1

Box Score

STEVENSON, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (1-7, 0-2 Commonwealth) dropped a 3-1 Commonwealth Conference decision to the Stevenson University Mustangs (6-6, 2-1 Commonwealth) Tuesday evening on the road.

Hood's Morgan Cole registered her team-high sixth goal of the season in the 65th minute off a penalty corner opportunity. Miriah Stone took the corner for the Blazers and a shot from outside the circle deflected off Mustang keeper Katie Cavanaugh's pad and was redirected by Cole into the cage to get the Blazers on the board.

Stevenson outshot the Blazers, 17-5, including 10 attempts on target. Ying Van Schaik turned aside six of them and Michelle Buhrman made a defensive save as well. The Mustangs used a pair of second-half scores to break open a 1-0 game after the first stanza. SU also boasted a 16-4 advantage on corners.

The Blazers have two home games slated for this weekend and both will feature special events. Hood will host Bethany College Friday at 4:30 p.m. for its annual Breast Cancer Awareness game, followed by a Sunday contest against Commonwealth foe Arcadia University at 1 p.m. The Hood athletic department will recognize seniors Michelle Buhrman, Megan Cahill and Miriah Stone before the Arcadia game.
