GLENSIDE, Pa.--The Hood College men's swim team (1-0, 1-0 MAC)
registered a convincing 170-81 Middle Atlantic Conferences victory
over Arcadia University (0-1, 0-1 MAC) Saturday afternoon in its
season opener.
The Blazers won eight individual events and both relays, in
addition to setting two Arcadia pool records. Today's team victory
was the first for a Hood men's program against a MAC school in
head-to-head competition. The Blazer men's cross country team
outpointed both Eastern University and Alvernia University on Sept.
22 at the Mule-Falcon Classic hosted by Cedar Crest College.
Newcomer Michael Curry had an impressive collegiate debut,
setting a pool record with a win in the 200 free (1:52.81) in
addition to capturing first place in the 100 free (52.30) and 500
free (5:14.34) as well as anchoring the victorious 200 medley relay
(1:44.56).
Sophomore Alex Bodine also notched a pool record with his
first-place swim in the 100 back (56.24). Bodine also won the 50
free (23.58) and the 200 back (2:08.70).
Other individual winners for the Blazers included Andrew Bodine
in the 100 breast (1:07.80) and Thomas Farrell in the 200 breast
(2:37.95). The Bodine brothers and Connor Eliff joined Curry on the
first-place 200 medley relay, while Daniel Lee, Jonathan
Bullard-Sisken and Jon Collier teamed up with Farrell to best
Arcadia's 200 free relay squad by 1.06 seconds (1:37.94).
Lee (11:37.02) and Lucas Netter (11:37.16) took second and
third, respectively, in the 1000 free, while Lee also finished
second in the 50 free (24.96). Collier touched out AU's David
Batistelli for second place twice in the 200 free (2:00.06) and the
100 free (54.57). Bullard-Sisken earned second-place points for
Hood in both the 100 back (1:02.00) and the 200 back (2:18.33).
Eliff turned in a runner-up swim in the 200 breast (2:42.85) and
Andrew Bodine was second in the 100 fly (1:00.07) and the 200 IM
(2:20.03).
The Blazers hit the road again for a tri-meet at Cabrini with
the Cavaliers and Pitt-Bradford Panthers Saturday at 1 p.m.
