Box Score READING, Pa.--The Hood College women's soccer team (2-13, 0-7 Commonwealth) came up on the short end of a 6-0 Commonwealth Conference decision at Alvernia University (8-7-2, 2-4-1 Commonwealth) Saturday evening.
Hood traveled with only eight healthy players, but the Crusaders demonstrated admirable sportsmanship in this league contest by fielding an identical lineup of eight players as well. Five different Crusaders scored in the opening stanza but the Blazers managed to limit Alvernia to a single tally in the second half.
Leah Norris made 11 stops in the net and the Blazers were also credited with a team save as the Crusaders registered 25 total shots in the match. Hood's five shots were all on frame but were denied by starting keeper Colleen Maher (4) and reserve netminder Alyss Reinsel (1). Lia Miller had two shots for Hood while Sam Norris, Kristen Byers and Jessie Herbert had one apiece. Hood was also awarded three corner kicks but was unable to cash in.
Hood hits the road for the final time Wednesday when it travels to familiar foe Stevenson University for a Commonwealth Conference contest at 7 p.m. The Blazers wrap up 2012 Saturday at home against Lycoming College at 11:30. Hood will recognize graduating seniors Kristen Byers, Amanda Hutzell, Aimee Smith and Stephanie Weaver prior to the contest.
