Dutchmen Defeat Hood Volleyball on Senior Day, 3-0

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (6-19, 0-9 Commonwealth) lost 3-0 (21-25, 11-25, 23-25) to the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (18-13, 5-4 Commonwealth) Thursday evening in the Blazers' Commonwealth Conference and season finale at BB&T Arena.

The Hood athletic department honored the Blazers' two graduating seniors, Alyssa Eshleman and Brittany Lethbridge, prior to the start of the match. Eshleman finished her final collegiate match with four kills, four assists, four aces and eight digs, while Lethbridge tallied a team-high eight kills, five digs, two aces and an assist in her Blazer farewell.

The Blazers played inspired in the first set as the two squads battled through five lead changes and six ties. Hood scored three straight points to draw even with the Dutchmen at 13-13 capped by an ace by Eshleman which forced LVC to call timeout. However, from there, the Dutchmen ripped off four straight points to assume a 17-13 advantage. Later in the set, the Blazers fought off two set points before the Dutchmen closed out the stanza, 25-21, on a kill by Sarah Godfrey.

LVC raced out to a 15-3 lead in the second set, which included a run of eight straight points, and went on to win 25-11.

In set number three, Hood held the upperhand for the majority of the frame and enjoyed its largest lead (13-8) following a solo block by Eshleman. But the Dutchmen would claw their way back into it and used a 5-0 run to leapfrog the Blazers, 20-18. Hood drew even twice more at 22-22 and 23-23 but was unable to get back in front as LVC used a Blazer serving error and a kill by Ally Stengel to clinch the match.

Kathryn Jones finished with a double-double of 14 assists and 13 digs to go along with three aces and two blocks for Hood while Amy Hagerdon chipped in seven kills and 12 digs. Ashley Park-Brouse had 10 digs and two blocks while Rebecca Rieser notched a pair of blocks and had one kill.

LVC's Steph Klunk finished with a match-high 11 kills while setter Kacey Musselman registered a double-double of 32 assists and 15 digs, both match-highs.
