Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (6-8, 0-3 Commonwealth) came up on the short end of a 3-0 defeat (10-25, 10-25, 20-25) at the hands of the visiting Widener University Pride (11-11, 3-2 Commonwealth) Wednesday evening at Hood's BB&T Arena.
Amy Hagerdon smacked a team-high seven kills and recorded nine digs while Rebecca Rieser finished with four kills and a pair of digs. Ashley Park-Brouse and Brittany Lethbridge posted three kills apiece, Alyssa Eshleman had two and Kathryn Jones had one. Jones also collected assists on 18 of Hood's 20 kills on the night while Brittany Lethbridge finished with a match-best 13 digs.
The first two sets belonged to the Pride, but the Blazers rallied in the third set, which featured seven ties and five lead changes. Back-to-back kills by Rieser and Hagerdon gave Hood its first lead of the match, 14-13, forcing the Pride to call timeout. Later in the set, with the score knotted at 20-20, Widener closed out the match by scoring five straight points, including three consecutive aces by Maggie Greenberg.
Angela DiMaria tallied 11 kills on 19 attempts for a .474 hitting percentage, while Greenberg registered 26 assists and Meghan Spence had 11 digs for the Pride.
The Blazers next travel to Shenandoah University Friday for a 7 p.m. nonconference match with the Hornets.
