WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.--The Hood College women's swim team (3-1, 1-1
MAC) suffered its first setback of the season at Lycoming College
(1-1, 1-1 MAC), 131-118 Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic
Conferences action.
Hood won six individual events and one relay on the day. The
individual winners for the Blazers were Caitlin Fay in the 1000
free (11:27.81), Brittany Whitham in the 200 free (2:05.73) and the
500 free (5:37.50), Shannon McHale in the 200 back (2:14.85) and
Lauren Fogarty in the 200 breast (2:36.10) and the 200 IM
(2:18.19).
McHale's time in the 200 back was 3:33 faster than her previous
team record set against Arcadia University two weeks ago. Fogarty's
clocking in the 200 IM lowered the previous school record of
2:18.59 set by Arielle Harding '12 at the 2012 Capital Athletic
Conference championship meet by 0.40 seconds, while her 200 fly
time of 2:16.45 bested her own record from the Arcadia meet by more
than two seconds.
The 200 free relay team of Theresa Schwarzwalder, Meg Blodgett,
Brenna Elizondo and Fay clocked a time of 1:55.67 to earn 11
first-place points for Hood.
Several Blazers clocked season-bests in their individual events,
including Lindsay Cronin in the 1000 free (11:50.92), Elizondo in
the 200 free (2:20.67) and the 50 free (30.72) and Daniela
Mittelkamp in the 200 fly (3:00.55).
Hood's next dual meet is slated for Wednesday against MAC foe
Elizabethtown College. The meet was originally scheduled to take
place at Hood's Huntsinger Aquatics Center, but unfortunately due
to construction delays relating to the enhancements to the aquatics
center, the meet will be contested at Elizabethtown at 6 p.m.
