Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.--The Hood College softball team (3-4) lost to Franklin & Marshall College, 6-2, but rebounded to defeat Minnesota-Morris, 9-4, at the National Training center Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., Monday.
In the opener versus the Diplomats, the Blazers plated two runs on a pair of F&M miscues in the bottom of the fourth. Hood had the bases loaded with one out after Amy Hagerdon and Caity Battey singled and Kelly Gafner was hit by a pitch. With Jackie Wenzel at the plate, Gafner and Hagerdon both scored following a passed ball and an error by the F&M catcher, making it 4-2 in favor of F&M. Hood managed just one base hit in the final three innings as the Diplomats held on for the win.
Battey worked the entire game and allowed nine hits, four unearned runs with four strikeouts and three walks.
In the second game against Minnesota-Morris, eight of Hood's nine starters collected at least one base hit, while Gafner went 4-for-4 and Hagerdon had a pair of doubles in a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Kali Ball drove in three runs on an RBI-groundout and a two-run double.
Jennifer Rutherford picked up the win in the circle and struck out four batters along the way.
The Blazers have three games slated for Tuesday before their day off Wednesday.
