Softball Falls at Stevenson, 9-1 in Five Innings; Blazers Eliminated from CAC Playoffs

STEVENSON, Md.--The sixth-seeded Hood College softball team (8-29) dropped a 9-1 decision in five innings to the fifth-seeded Stevenson University Mustangs (15-21) Thursday afternoon in the second round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The loss eliminates the Blazers from the playoffs.

Caity Battey, Jackie Yurchak and Kali Ball registered Hood's three base hits on the day and Amy Hagerdon drove in Hood's lone run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.

Stevenson scored three runs in the third and six in the fourth to secure the win. SU's Brittani Rynkowski went 2-for-2 with four RBI to lead the Mustang offense.

Alison Schuetz worked four innings in the circle and allowed just three earned runs and fanned two batters while allowing six base hits and walking five.

The Blazers wrap up the 2012 season Tuesday hosting McDaniel College for a twinbill at 3 p.m.
