Hood Beaten Twice by Stevenson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

STEVENSON, Md.—The Hood College women's softball team (7-20, 1-9 CAC) was downed by Stevenson University (12-14, 2-2 CAC) 8-0 and 6-0 in its two games this afternoon. It was only the second time all year the Blazers were unable to score a run in a double-header. It was just a difficult day all around as Hood's hitting and pitching were both off, leading to the defeats.

Stevenson's pitching staff limited Hood to just five hits total in the two contests. Sophomore Amy Hagerdon was the only Blazer to record multiple hits on the afternoon as she had one hit in each game. Casey Dunn and Jackie Yurchak also had a hit in game one while Kali Ball had a hit in game two to round out the hitting on the day for Hood.

In game one of the double-header Hood stayed tough for the first three innings as each team could not anything going offensively. Stevenson changed that in the bottom of the fourth when the Mustangs scored three runs off of Hood starting pitcher Alison Schuetz. Schuetz pitched all 5.1 innings played as Stevenson scored five more runs in the sixth to end the game at 8-0. Schuetz struck out two Stevenson batters, however she gave up nine hits and eight runs to take the loss. Stevenson was led by pitcher Briana Pichalski as she pitched a three hit shutout and struck out five Blazer batters while walking just two.

Kristen Fassler provided the offense hitting a home run while going 2 for 2 with three RBI.

In game two of the double-header Stevenson got on the board early with three runs in the first inning and one in the second to give it an early four run lead.  It was all they would need as Hood's bats did not wake up for the second game either as Stevenson pitcher Katie Diller pitched a complete game two hit shutout. Hood sent out Jennifer Rutherford to oppose Diller and she gave up six runs on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk. Hood left five runners on base in the contest while Stevenson left just three.

Hood returns to action this Monday to take on soon to be MAC foe Messiah. The games are set to begin at 3 and 5 p.m.
