FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College volleyball team (1-1) christened its new home, BB&T Arena, Saturday hosting Valley Forge Christian College (0-2) and Shenandoah University (2-0) for a tri-match.

The Blazers cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Patriots (25-7, 25-12, 25-13) in the opener and rallied to force a fourth set with the Hornets but came up short, 11-25, 17-25, 26-24, 16-25.

Hood aced the Patriots 17 times and smacked 28 kills in the three-set affair. Hayley Rogers put down a match-high seven kills while Addie Roop served 10 aces and had a pair of kills. Amy Hagerdon contributed five kills and three aces while Alyssa Eshleman set up 19 Blazer kills and collected a pair of her own. Keesha Fields paced the defense with seven digs while Ashley Park-Brouse finished with five kills and Rebecca Rieser had three.

After Shenandoah defeated the Patriots in three sets in the second match, Hood squared off against the Hornets looking for its first win versus SU in 23 meetings. The Hornets logged 13 kills in the opening set en route to a 25-11 win. In the second set, Hood was able to capitalize more on attack and led 6-3 early on, but the Hornets outscored the Blazers 8-1 over the next several exchanges, scoring four points on aces, to go up 11-7. Hood got no closer than three the rest of the set.

The third set was a seesaw affair which saw six lead changes and 11 ties. Shenandoah moved into within a point of sweeping the match on a kill by Kelcy Brown, but Hagerdon countered with a kill of her own to tie the set at 24-24. After a Hornet attack error, Park-Brouse put down the clinching kill off a set from Eshleman to extend the match for the Blazers.

In set number four, the Hornets surrendered the first two points to Hood on a serving error and an attack error. However Brown regained the lead for her squad after serving seven straight points and Shenandoah never trailed again.
