FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's soccer team (1-4) suffered a 5-0 setback at the hands of the visiting Goucher College Gophers (5-0) Saturday afternoon in nonconference action at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Gophers came into the contest without surrendering a goal in its previous four contests and kept that streak alive today against the Blazers as the goalkeeping tandem of Lexi Rudolph and Julianna Harkavy kept Hood out of the net.

Hood had two solid scoring chances in the second half. Dorothy Hearn sent a nice cross in the box to Brittni Souder, but her header attempt sailed wide of the net. Then in the 76th minute, a free kick by Sam Norris was corralled by Harkavy.

Goucher led 1-0 at halftime after Lindsey Puopolo knocked home her third goal of the season in the seventh minute. Then in the second half, Puopolo struck again just 2:44 into the period off a feed from Sherlanda Buskey. Buskey got into the scoring column in the 55th minute with her fifth goal of the season. Katherine Matthew-Parker finished a pass from Maeve Downey in the 61st minute and Buskey rounded out the scoring with another unassisted tally in the 81st minute.

Leah Norris made five saves in the net for Hood while Rudolph and Harkavy combined for three stops.

Hood is back in action again Tuesday when the Blazers host the University of Mary Washington at 4:30 p.m. in nonconference action.
