Field Hockey Falls to Goucher, 2-0

Box Score

TOWSON, Md.--The Hood College field hockey team (1-5) came up on the short end of a 2-0 decision to the Goucher College Gophers (3-4) Monday evening in nonconference action.

The Gophers netted both scores within a 4:41 span in the second half, both off penalty corners. Goucher's leading scorer Justine Ruhlin knocked one past Hood's starting keeper Ying Van Schaik off a scramble in the 42nd minute and then Megan Meluskey registered her first goal of the season a few minutes later.

The Blazers had their chances in this one as Hood ripped off 13 shots, including seven on cage. Van Schaik rejected eight shots in the cage to keep the Blazers in it but Goucher's Demie Huffman turned aside all seven Blazer attempts on target to earn the shutout. The Gophers were also awarded twice as many penalty corners as the Blazers, 16-8.

Hood travels to Elizabethtown College (6-2, 0-1 Commonwealth) Saturday for its first-ever Commonwealth Conference contest. The Blazers and Blue Jays square off at 1 p.m.
