Hood Downed by Bridgewater 7-0

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College women's soccer team (1-2) was defeated 7-0 by the Bridgewater (Va.) Eagles (2-1) in the team's home opener of the season.

The Blazers were just never really able to get on track as Bridgewater had an answer for everything the Hood tried to do. The Eagles got on the score sheet in the first six minutes of the game as Sarah Connor made a nice run and cross to a streaking Abby Dehoff across the 18 yard box, who hit a low strike to the back right corner that gave Hood goalkeeper Leah Norris no chance. Norris was then caught off her line as Bridgewater took advantage with two long shot goals by Brittany Harris and Krissy Snyder.

The second half did not get any easier for the blue and grey as Bridgewater's superior possession of the ball really made it difficult for Hood. The Eagles dashed any hope of a Blazer comeback when Melanie Waters scored just four minutes into the second half, while Dehoff added her second goal a minute later to end Hood's chances. Senior Aimee Smith led the Blazers with two shots on goal, however Hood was outshot 24-5, and outpaced in corner kicks by a count of 8-1. Hood goalkeeper Norris made ten saves on the afternoon and Bridgewater's trio of Chelsea Steele, Taylor Riley, and Krista Kelly preserved the clean sheet for the Eagles with three saves total.

The Blazers return to action this Sunday with a road date at out of conference foe Shenandoah. The game will begin at 5 p.m.
