FREDERICK, Md.--Rachel Wiley of the Hood College women's basketball team (4-10, 2-5 Commonwealth) netted a season-high 16 points, but the Blazers fell to the visiting Widener University Pride (12-3, 7-1 Commonwealth), 67-56, Saturday in a Commonwealth Conference game at BB&T Arena.

Wiley was one rebound away from a double-double after collecting a game-high nine rebounds in addition to leading the team in scoring on 5-of-10 shooting. Rachel Kessler finished with nine points, four rebounds and three steals while Dyanna Prater ended up with seven points and three assists. Olivia Hosch dished a season-high three assists in the losing cause.

Hood was in the driver's seat in the early going, building as much as a seven-point advantage just 5:34 into the contest. Widener inched their way back into it with a solid defensive effort and clutch free throw shooting. Kate Dellinger gave the Pride its first lead of the day with a jumper at the 8:39 mark, making it 20-19. The Widener lead ballooned to 11 by halftime and the Blazers went into the break trailing 37-26.

Hood closed the gap to eight on several occasions, the last of which came at the 11:38 mark thanks to Sarah Marcello's jumper (49-41). The Blazers were unable to make a significant dent in the deficit after coming up empty from behind the arc on the day (0-for-12).

Hood outrebounded the Pride, 48-42, but fell victim to 30 miscues in the game.

Widener, which sits in a tie for second place in the Commonwealth, placed three players in double figures, paced by Joanna Persiano's game-high 18. She drained four of Widener's six treys in just 15 minutes of action.

Hood hosts another Commonwealth opponent Wednesday when it welcomes the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen to BB&T Arena for a 6 p.m. tilt.
