Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Two first half goals proved too much for Hood College to overcome, as visiting Wilson defeated the Blazers 3-0 in non-conference action.
The Phoenix scored twice in an eight minute span in the first half to put the game out of reach. Hillary Swartz took a long pass and got to the top of the circle for the first goal in the 21st minute. In the 29th minute, Swartz assisted on a goal by Katie Omori to put Wilson up 2-0 at the half.
Hood was under pressure early in the second half, but goalkeeper Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) making just her second career start, kept the damage at a minimum.
Less than four minutes after play resumed, Wilson had a breakaway attempt, but the ball was played a little too far out in front of the advance and Sedgwick beat the offense to the ball inside the circle before a shot could be taken.
After Megan Schneck capped the scoring in the 47th minute, Sedgwick was tested again. Three minutes later, the Phoenix intercepted a Hood clear attempt just outside the circle to set up a one-on-one, but the Blazer freshman was up to the task and turned the shot away.
Hood had its best scoring opportunities in the second half. April Ganz (Germantown, Md. / Seneca Valley), playing in just her second game of the year, put a shot on goal in the 48th minute. Six minutes later, Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) unleashed a solid strike from just outside the circle that found the back of the cage.
Sedgwick finished with 10 saves, including nine in the second half.
Hood is back in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday, October 5 at Arcadia. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
