FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's soccer team fell to the Alvernia University Crusaders in a Commonwealth Conference match this afternoon.

The Blazers honored their seniors, Brittni Souder (Union Bridge, Md. / Walkersville) and Megan Kowalewski (Baltimore, Md. / Catholic), before the game. 

The Crusaders took a 2-0 halftime lead off of a Hood own goal in the 19th minute, and a hard shot from Bridget Verdel in the 29th minute. 

Sarah Marcello (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) cut the deficit to one with her second goal of the year. She carried the ball in to right side of the box and her strike floated in over the keeper's head in the 81st minute.

Bri McGrath answered for Alvernia in the 83rd minute to end the comeback hopes for Hood. 

Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) made six saves on nine shots in her career debut in goal for the Blazers. 

Colleen Maher made one save on two shots for the Crusaders.

Hood will play at Thomas Athletic Field one last time this season when the Stevenson Mustangs visit on October 29.
