Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College softball team (11-5) blanked the Wilson College Phoenix (0-8) in both games of a nonconference doubleheader, 7-0 and 8-0 in five innings, Wednesday afternoon at the Hood Softball Field.
The Blazers rapped out 25 base hits, including two doubles, a triple and two home runs, en route to the sweep. Ashley Fourcade went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and drove in four runs in the twinbill. She crushed her third home run of the season, a three-run shot, in the nightcap and extended her hit streak to 16 straight games, which ties the program record.
Kali Ball and Carly Farr drove in three runs apiece in the sweep while Casey Dunn registered five base hits, including a triple, and scored three times.
Keerstie Robinson and Jennifer Rutherford both earned shutout victories in the circle. Robinson tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener and did not allow an extra-base hit while Rutherford struck out five Phoenix hitters in game two and also surrendered just two hits.
In the opener, Hood plated two runs in the first, third and fourth innings and added a seventh run in the fifth. Dunn, Farr, Fourcade, Ball and Amy Hagerdon all had multi-hit games. Farr also belted her third round-tripper of the season, a two-run blast to center, in the fourth inning.
Game two saw the Blazers score three runs in the first, one each in the second and third and three more in the fourth. Alexa Sivic was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Rutherford helped her cause with a run-scoring double in the third.
The Blazers return to action Friday against Arcadia University in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
