READING, Pa.--The Hood College softball team (17-12, 5-4 Commonwealth) dropped both games of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader to the Alvernia University Crusaders (26-4, 11-1 Commonwealth) by counts of 10-2 in five innings and 11-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders came into the game tied atop the league standings with only one conference loss and banged out 27 base hits in today's twinbill.

Trailing 5-0 heading into the fourth inning of the opener, Hood cut the deficit to 5-2 when Alexa Sivic doubled in Ashley Fourcade and Jackie Yurchak knocked in Kali Ball with a groundout to the third baseman. The Crusaders got those two runs back in their half of the fourth and tacked on three more in the fifth for the run-rule win. Keerstie Robinson took the loss in game one, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits.

In the nightcap, Hood again plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI-single by Fourcade and a bases-loaded walk by Katie Jenkins. But that was only after Alvernia had broken the game open with an eight-run inning in the previous frame. Hood was unable to register a base runner in its half of the fifth and the Crusaders completed the sweep with another run-rule victory. Jennifer Rutherford suffered just her fourth loss if the season in the circle.

Hood looks to get back on the winning track Sunday when the Blazers host the Lycoming College Warriors in a Commonwealth doubleheader at noon. The Blazers will also host a "Strike Out Cancer" fundraiser during the games.
