LVC Sweeps Hood in Commonwealth Twinbill, 4-0 and 10-2 (6)

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ANNVILLE, Pa.--The Hood College softball team (18-15, 6-7 Commonwealth) played its third Commonwealth Conference doubleheader in five days and gave one of the top teams in the league a good run but came up short, falling 4-0 in the opener and 10-2 in six innings in the nightcap to the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (25-4-1, 13-1 Commonwealth) Wednesday afternoon.

Alexa Sivic blasted her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning of game two, a two-run shot over the leftfield fence, which drew the Blazers to within 3-2. However, the Dutchmen rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on three more in the sixth for the run-rule victory.

Hood registered six base hits in the game, including one apiece by Amy Hagerdon, Carly Farr, Kali Ball, Jackie Yurchak, Liz Decembrino and Sivic. Jennifer Rutherford took the loss despite not allowing a walk, giving up just four earned runs and fanning two LVC hitters.

In the opener, the Blazers limited the Dutchmen to a single run over the first five innings, that coming on a passed ball in the bottom of the third. Hood had two runners in scoring position in the second after Ball doubled and Sivic singled with only one out, but Dutchmen starter Sam Derr retired the next two Blazer hitters on a foul out and a strikeout to end the rally. Hood threatened again in the seventh when Sivic and Yurchak laced back-to-back singles to left with two out. But Hood was unable to push across a run as Katie Jenkins flied out to center for the final out.

Keerstie Robinson struck out four LVC batters and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits in the tough luck defeat. Her opponent in the circle, Derr, is a former All-American and NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year who transferred to LVC from Kutztown University.

Hood will next make a return trip to Arcadia University Friday to complete the second game of a doubleheader from March 29, which the two teams were unable to begin due to impending darkness. The Blazers emerged victorious in the opener of that series, 11-10 in 13 innings. Hood then returns home Saturday for a Commonwealth double dip with Widener University at noon. The Blazers will recognize senior second baseman Casey Dunn before the first game.
