Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa.--The Hood College softball team (21-15, 9-7 Commonwealth) snapped a scoreless tie with a five-run fifth inning and starter Keerstie Robinson did not allow a hit for the final three innings as the Blazers defeated the Arcadia University Knights (16-20, 6-10 Commonwealth), 6-1, in a Commonwealth Conference game Thursday afternoon.
Today's game was the nightcap of a twinbill that was suspended on March 29 after the opener went 13 innings (Hood won, 11-10). With the win, the Blazers remain in fourth place in the Commonwealth standings with one league doubleheader remaining on Saturday versus Stevenson University (16-18, 7-9 Commonwealth) at home. Hood needs just one victory in the series with the Mustangs to clinch a spot in the Commonwealth playoffs, which begins Friday, May 3.
Amy Hagerdon went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Carly Farr, Ashley Fourcade, Kali Ball, Jackie Yurchak and Jackie Wenzel all registered one base hit apiece.
Robinson went the distance to win her 13th game of the season and seventh versus conference rivals. She allowed just five base hits, all singles, and struck out three Knight hitters in a game that took just 1:30 to complete.
Hagerdon and Farr led off Hood's half of the fifth with back-to-back singles and Fourcade brought them around with a line drive to right field to make it 2-0. With Alexa Sivic at the plate, two more runs came in for the Blazers after a throwing error by Arcadia third baseman Corrine Showalter. Yurchak doubled over left fielder Amanda Tomaschek's head which plated Sivic to stake the Blazers to a 5-0 lead.
Arcadia scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a one-out RBI-single by Ashley John. Robinson retired the next two batters, both on the first pitch, on a groundout and a pop out.
Hood tacked on another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI-double by Hagerdon, which plated Wenzel.
