Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md.--Jackie Yurchak hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one and Kali Ball and Carly Farr drove in two runs apiece in the nightcap as the Hood College softball team (16-5, 5-2 Commonwealth) extended its winning streak to seven in a row with a sweep of Albright College (5-19, 2-10 Commonwealth) in Commonwealth Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Yurchak drove a 1-0 pitch from Aubrey Koch over the leftfield fence with one out in the bottom of the ninth to clinch a dramatic come-from-behind win over the Lions. Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Casey Dunn and Amy Hagerdon picked up key RBIs to knot the game at 4-4 and force extras. With the bases loaded and one out, Dunn lifted a sacrifice fly to left to plate Kali Ball and Hagerdon singled in Jennifer Rutherford for the tying run. After two scoreless innings by starter Keerstie Robinson, Yurchak was the hero as she homered for the third time thie season to give Hood the 5-4 win.
Robinson won her ninth decision of the season, allowing just one earned run and striking out three Lions along the way.
In the nightcap, Hood batted around in the bottom of the third which turned out to be the decisive inning in a 6-3 win. Ball smashed her second round-tripper of the season, a two-run shot with two outs, while Farr and Foucade combined for three RBIs in the frame. Hagerdon went 3-for-4 in the game while Dunn had a pair of hits and scored a run.
Rutherford chalked up her seventh win of the season, scattering nine hits and surrendering one earned run.
Hood gets right back to work Sunday when the Blazers travel to former Capital Athletic Conference rival Frostburg State University for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
