Hagerdon Belts Grand Slam in 5-1 Win Over Stevenson in Commonwealth Tourney

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa.--Junior Amy Hagerdon of the fourth-seeded Hood College softball team (23-16) blasted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fourth inning and freshman Keerstie Robinson scattered six hits and surrendered just one unearned run as the Blazers defeated the fifth-seeded Stevenson University Mustangs (19-20) Friday morning in the first round of the Commonwealth Conference tournament at Lebanon Valley College.

The Blazers' win today marks the first-ever Commonwealth Conference playoff victory for any Hood program. Hood will next take on the top-seeded LVC Dutchmen at 2 p.m.

Stevenson took the early 1-0 lead with two outs in the top of the second on a pair of singles and a Blazer fielding error.

Despite putting some solid swings on starter Molly Hoyt, the Blazers were limited to just two base hits over the first three innings. But in the fourth, Hood rallied for five runs on four base hits.

Alexa Sivic ignited the rally with a single to left center and Jackie Yurchak laced a base hit through the left side. Both base runners moved up a station after a groundout by Katie Jenkins and Jackie Wenzel walked to load the bases. Leadoff hitter Casey Dunn tied the game up with a blast back up the middle to plate pinch-runner Jennifer Rutherford.

Stevenson then brought in Briana Pichalski to take over the pitching. To the delight of the large contingent of Hood parents and fans who made the trip to LVC, Hagerdon proceeded to launch a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam, marking her first home run of the season and the third of her Hood career.

Robinson was virtually unhittable the rest of the way as she allowed just one base hit over the final three innings, a bloop double to left off the bat of Lindsay Kuczak to lead off the seventh. Robinson retired the side on a fly ball to Yurchak in left, a pop up to Wenzel at third and a line out to Dunn at second to seal the win.

Yurchak went 3-for-3 in the game while Robinson needed just 78 pitches to pick up her 15th victory of the spring.
