Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Hood College dropped its opener to St. Mary's (Md.) in three sets, but rebounded for a 3-2 win over Ursinus to split a pair of matches played at Gettysburg College.
A powerful Seahawk squad that has just one loss on the year dispatched the Blazers 25-17, 25-11, 25-16. Amy Hagerdon and Rebecca Rieser each had three kills to lead Hood. Morgan Huffer added nine digs. Kathryn Jones and Hayley Rogers served up two aces apiece.
Against the Bears, Hood claimed the first two sets 25-17 and 25-22. Ursinus managed to fend off elimination by outlasting the Blazers 28-26 in the third set. Ursinus forced a fifth set with a 25-18 fourth set victory, but Hood put the match away with a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set.
Hagerdon had a double-double for the Blazers with 15 kills and 26 digs. Rogers chipped in with eight kills and eight blocks. Reiser had eight kills and a pair of blocks. Huffer had a dozen digs and two aces. Addie Roop reached double digits in digs with 10 and Ashley Park-Brouse served up a pair of aces.
Hood looks to stay in the win column on Monday, September 16 with a home match against Penn State-Mont Alto at 7 p.m.
