FREDERICK, Md. - Hood easily won the first set, but had to come-from-behind in the next two sets to sweep a pesky Penn State-Mont Alto squad in non-conference volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-12, 25-23 and 26-24.

In the first set, Amy Hagerdon had kills for the first three points of the match and Morgan Huffer served up a pair of aces during a 9-0 run to start things off. Hood never allowed Mont Alto within seven points the rest of the way as the Blazers hit 14-of-32 (.438) without an error in the set.

The Nittany Lions regrouped in set two and led 18-13 after an attack error by Hood.  The Blazer rallied, however, and back-to-back kills by Addie Roop and a pair of attack errors by PSU allowed Hood to claim a 21-20 lead. Melissa Orlandini later had kills to tie the game at both 22-22 and 23-23, but two errors by Mont Alto gave Hood the 25-23 victory.

The Blazers trailed 19-12 in the third set after a kill by Dori Kozain. After a timeout, kills by Rebecca Rieser and Ashley Park-Brouse chipped into the lead as Hood trailed 19-15. Hood continued to claw back into the set and later a kill by Hagerdon and an ace by Park-Brouse tied the set at 22-22. Two kills by Sarah Bortner hellped Mont Alto take a 24-23 lead, but a kill by Kathryn Jones tied the score. After an attack error by the Nittany Lions gave Hood a match point, an attack by Roop sealed the win for the Blazers.

Both teams had strong hitting efforts in the third set, combining for 34 kills and just three errors in 92 attempts.

For the match, Hood hit .264.

Hagerdon led all players with 19 kills and had just two errors on 41 attempts (.415). She added 10 digs for a double-double and finished with 20 points.

Rieser was error free on 15 attacks with eight kills (.533).  

Jones dished out 30 assists. Huffer had four aces and 15 digs, both team-highs. Roop added 14 digs.

Bortner and Orlandini had 11 kills apiece to lead Mont Alto. Bortner matched teammate Katie Graham for the match-high with 17 digs.

The Blazers (4-5) travel to York (Pa.) to face the Spartans on September 18 at 7 p.m.
