Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Alexis Briscoe scored the game-winner with less than a minute to go as the Blazers won their first game of the year with a 2-1 victory over Sweet Briar.
Rachel Marlow's strike found the stick of Briscoe in a crowd of players in front of the cage and the forward knocked it home to break a 1-1 tie at the 69:06 mark of the contest.
The win marked the first career victory for first-year head coach Alexis Nielson.
Briscoe notched the assist on Hood's first goal, one which tied the score at 1-1 early in the second half. She sent the ball from the middle of the circle off to the right side where Ashley Griffin found the back of goal at 38:36.
The goals by Griffin and Briscoe were the first career scores for both players.
The Vixens had taken the lead midway through the first half before the Blazers scored their two second half goals to claim the win. Loralei Whittaker took a free hit from well outside the circle and Kimberly Orchowski redirected in for the goal.
Ying Van Schaik played the entire game in goal for Hood and made seven saves. Emily Richardson notched a defensive save to prevent a second Sweet Briar goal in the 48th minute.
Skyler Rowan stopped three shots for the Vixens.
The Blazers will look to make it two in a row against Notre Dame (Md.) on September 9 in Baltimore.
